Refresh Rewind: Spring Reading

Refresh Rewind: Spring Reading

by The Refresh Editors

We had a reluctant spring here in the Northeastern US. Rain and even snow tested the patience of our delicate spring flowers and we doubted the season would ever arrive. But temperatures finally rose, cherry blossoms bloomed and (most of the time) we’re enjoying the kind of weather that makes us want to crack open a window or sit under a tree while reading a good book.

Luckily for us (and for you!), writers at The Refresh have been sharing their favorites across genre, topic, and book birthplace. Here are a few lists to power up your search for spring reading material:

Laughs from the Past: 5 Fun Historical Novels to Read Now

Greer Macallister artfully rounds up novels that combine the fascination of history with the lightness of a beach read. You’ll find tales that throw a contemporary spin on well-worn settings such as 18th Century Europe or the Wild West. Bonus: a few of these are a treat to listen to in audiobook form.

Think You are Too Young for Young Adult Novels? Think Again!

If you’re looking for permission to read Young Adult novels, look no further than Annie Sullivan’s collection. YA genre is diverse, and includes books that explore serious topics from a teen lens and those that are set in a fantastical realm and offer an escape. You’re never too old to dive into this genre.

Put Another Book on the Shelf: Five Aussie Writers You Should Know

Look beyond American and British literature, and explore writers from a different continent. Proud Aussie Marissa Price rounds up writers who work in fiction, memoir, romance and even graphic novels. What’s more exciting than cracking open a book from a place you’ve never been or an author you’re meeting for the first time?
